Statement
Wigan Pies –
The Facts
Due to the uncertainty in the general public
and press surrounding the true identity of "Wigan Pies"
we have had no alternative but to issue this statement to
clarify once and for all who is Wigan Pies and what is a Wigan
Pie. This state of affairs has been created by a number of
back street bakers attempting to pass off as our company, make claim to our product or trade as the "Home of the Wigan Pie". Thankfully one of the more prominent of these "businesses"
has now ceased trading.
Wigan pies
Wigan Pies as a company was formed around
the internet domains www.wiganpies.co.uk and www.wiganpies.com
in the year 2000. Those internet domain names were first registered
by us and we are the owners of those names. It is a stand
alone company for the sole purpose of online promotion and
marketing for The Original Wigan Pie, The Original Wigan Pie
Company and it's products. You will find it listed in the
telephone directory and Yellow Pages under Wigan Pies.
Wigan Pie
The Piemaster created the secret Wigan Pie
recipe being documented in the local and regional press at
the time. Up until then the product did not exist. (There
were of course pies baked in Wigan but that does not constitute
any of them as being a Wigan pie just as a sponge cake baked
in Eccles would not be considered as an Eccles cake) Subsequently
a number of companies claimed they baked a Wigan Pie, were
“The Home of the Wigan Pie” or began trading as
Wigan pies with complete disregard for our protests. No other
company but ours can legitimately claim to make a Wigan Pie
as no one else possesses our original recipe. We made it -
We baked it - end of story!
The Wigan Pie is not in commercial production
at the moment as it has a number of issues that make it difficult
to produce in large volume but these issues should be resolved
shortly. To make public the pie without it being in full production
would leave it wide open to plagiarism, pre-empting the launch
of the real thing. The reasons that prompted us into issuing
this statement should confirm that would most certainly be
the outcome by us taking that step.
The Wigan Pie Company
The companies "Wigan Pies of Wigan Ltd ", "The Wigan Pie
Company Ltd" and "The Original Wigan Pie Company
Ltd" were formed to stave off attention by the predatory
companies that have shown an unwelcome interest in our business
on numerous occasions. We are the REAL home of the Wigan Pie.
The Piemaster
The character "The Piemaster" was created by the owner of Wigan Pies in 2000 as a pen name for himself and is used for advertising purposes. This character has also been the subject of hijack attempts by a number of "companies". He is the owners original creation as a quick visit to the thepiemaster.com and .co.uk would confirm. These domains are to be used for a new project to be launched in the very near future. |
Company Slogans
The company slogans "Pieology in action" and "The art of pieology" are registered trademarks of Wigan Pies and their reproduction is allowed only by the express written permission of Wigan Pies.
The Press
Contrary to reports in the press Wigan Pies,
Wigan Pies of Wigan Ltd, The Wigan Pie Company Ltd and The
Original Wigan Pie Company Ltd have never gone into liquidation,
ceased trading or been in any financial difficulties whatsoever.
They have never at any time been wholly or in part owned by
another company, partnership or individual.
Summary
These are the facts which are fully researcheable
in the public domain and we challenge any individual or company
who disputes these facts to contest them in court. We suggest
to the public that they draw their own conclusions as to the
behaviour of some pie manufacturers and bakers in the Wigan area that we
consider to have acted or are still acting in a manner that
is unthethical at best and unprintable at worst.
